Mill wheel Star = Martin Mayer, Mainz, Germany

Hello Steve

The here shown "maker's mark" is that of Martin Mayer, Mainz, Germany.

Martin Mayer was a little manufactory with a broad range of little silver wares - but they were also wholesaler. So some of their products were made by other workshops or manufactories - and signed/warranted by Martin Mayer.

For the export all necessary fineness were made - in this case STERLING.

It seems to me that yours item was made by a contractor from Hanau, Germany. It seems to be made by the sand cast production technique.

Time range: Before WWI.

Kind regards silverport
