Pap boat

Postby jok23 » Mon Nov 22, 2010 9:46 am

I just found this silver pap boat with very (almost completely) rubbed marks. It also has various engravings; initials on the base and a crest (probably a later addition) on the side. I was wondering if anyone would be able to estimate the date. Various aspects of the hallmarks can be made out if you have really good light and eyesight. I can see the outline of the crowned leopard's head for London. The last mark may or may not be the date letter, in which case the nearest match I could find is the h for 1763. Of course this could be completely wrong. Hopefully you can see the marks in the photos, and maybe the engraving could help date the piece.

Afraid I can't help with the marks. Stylistically it looks to me like a piece from c.1780-90.

It looks too late for this one. If pushed, I would go for 1783.
