No Idea of Country of Origin or Maker, Anyone Help?

A very interesting item which I am sure is a sardine server, it measures 120mm in length and weighs 34 grammes.

Only P.O.R is marked on the reverse side and thus far I have been unable to find anything anywhere with this mark, Can anyone assist at all with Country of origin, maker and maybe even a date?

The handle is a full fish, I think I take images with a to high a resoloution for this site and it has possibly clipped my image to make it smaller but I think there is plenty there to give an idea of the object.

It’s an interesting object!

It isn’t Portuguese — also there is a kind of mnemonic aid: P.O.R

But it seems to me, to be well related to Sardines — for to could serve sardines, being before tinned in e.g. olive oil. Every day, except weekend, I hear the signs of begin and end of the fish auctions. And then after it need only a few hours to be tinned for the consumer’s, every where.

It seems to me that it is a singularly made item — maybe made by an apprentice? To show several skills of him, which he has already learned?

Well it’s showing skills of a beginning period — but there fore, already well done as an apprentice in silversmith and engraving.

Maybe also the design isn’t only a copy of some body’s work?

The design, making, and used letters of the punch let me guess: XX century.

Well it could be made by an apprentice in his master’s workshop. But it’s also imaginable, that it’s done by some body on board (e.g. the mechanic, or the blacksmith) of a ship on a long lasting trawl?

Almost often it’s a pity that our collectibles withhold many secrets — and we could only guess and imagine.

Many thanks for your thoughts, I would imagine you could be on the right track regarding it being an apprentice piece, As yet I still have not been able to track down the P.O.R mark.
