Unknown Piece Made by Webster Company, Please Help

Postby sadavidas » Tue Oct 19, 2010 3:37 pm

I'm new to silver and this is the first piece I have ever purchased. I've never been informed enough to make an educated purchase before. I found this in box at an antique store that said anything inside was $1. When I saw this, I saw that it was sterling and figured I couldn't go wrong for that price.

I've looked for hours on the internet and was able to identify the mark as being from the Webster Company. But I can't figure out what it is that I have or what it is used for. I've found picture of things with identical patterns, but none of them a capped end or the knob on mine. Any help would be appreciated, it's getting pretty frustrating looking on end without finding anything useful.

It is 1 and 7/8 inches tall and has a diameter of 1 inch. Thank you for your help.

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

I guess that your photo shows the item upside down and I presume this would have had a glass liner originally. As the square that is cut into the base has a V notch cut into it, then it would appear to be there as a guide for locating the piece into some form of rack, so maybe a container that was once part of a cruet set.

Trev.
