Silver Fakes & Forgeries Seminar
Monday 22 November 2010
This ever-popular event, held in the magnificent Goldsmiths' Hall, is a must for silver collectors or anyone with an interest in silverware. It combines educational lectures with first-hand contact with examples of authentic and counterfeit objects.
KEYNOTE SPEAKER - Alastair Dickenson, leading antique silver dealer and advisor to the BBC's Antiques Roadshow.
EXCLUSIVE - For the first time, during this seminar, we will be taking an exclusive look into the case of Ashley-Russell:
In 2008 Mr. Peter Ashley-Russell was sentenced to a total of three years’ imprisonment for offences under the Forgery Act 2006, with four offences relating to the faking and forging of antique silver. He was responsible for the faking and forging of 39 antique spoons, forks, coffee pots and a tazza made of silver. The fraudulent activities included conversion of spoons to forks to increase their value and the application of fake hallmarks using imitation punches that Mr. Ashley-Russell had forged.
Delegates will have the opportunity to discuss and examine some of the items forged by Ashley-Russell which were seized by the Metropolitan Police.
Places are limited and by reservation only.
Cost £80 per person including lunch.
