British marks phenomena and their possible »attributions«

British marks phenomena and their possible »attributions«;
Learning to observing »Pellet«, no »Pellet«, »dot«, no »dots«

Hello all

I look from the continents side — and be very happy, that in the past, as also just now existing humans with an enthusiastic devotion and activities, to enlighten the, now in dark, past.

Gentlemen, thank you there fore!

I’m now about one year member of »925-1000«. When I look back one year, to the situation of past time German silver items, and their »attribution« in the sellers »market«, in questions placed in »925-1000« and answers: All items were »hand wrought«, had a »hallmark«, and a »maker’s mark« from their retailer or sponsor.

In between by time and while »Gute Sitten verderben schlechte Gewohnheiten« = »A good behaviour spoils bad behaviour«

Now in the continental sector rises the awareness of cessions of the Guilds, same time machine made items became importance, and »hand wrought« came in decline until the time between the two World Wars. Then was often an appearance or a “touch of to be hand-wrought« added; it’s not so seldom: also machine made!

Maker’s marks are now more precise studied — like »buckler« does. »buckler« thank you for yours behaviour!

Observing »Pellet«, no »Pellet«, »dot«, no »dots« - all is future “nightmare” for us Continentals.

By the way, studying Portuguese maker’s marks from the time before 1887 I’ve observed, that some times a M has top left an additional dot — now I know, that it is an integration of the J initial.

But actually we are fare away from a central register - »Theoderich«, by luck a young man, has start a private attempt to search, register and publishing. By trial and error — but it’s one of the only few general attempts as »open source«. »Theoderich« thank you too for yours behaviour!

The Continental registers in »925-1000« are missing a lot of informations — updates of already collected, and well sounded information’s must be (now) integrated.

There are many possible Projects — for lack of manpower, some times also lack of sounded information’s it couldn’t be done. E.g. a »Retailer’s«, now called »Sponsors« register for the Continental countries.

Now about five years »925-1000« is forum and source — now already long time ago out of the »pampers«. To name only a few of »925-1000« restless busy “nurses”:

»2209patrick« Pat. would reach already now the top mark of 3,000 contributions;
Close to his “heals” »dognose« Trev. — now also close to have 3,000 contributions;
And busy as ever, »admin« Tom would reach the top mark of 2,500 contributions.

Many thanks for all of your intensive admiration, to help »children«, and »mayors« as well!

Kind regards silverport
