here is a pic of a spoon i found in my backyard. I cannot identify the year can i get some help here.

I believe flatware doesn't generally carry 'year' markings.

BTW, the 'E' apparently is a weight code and means 'Extra Heavy'.

My guess is that this spoon was manufactured in Providence, Rhode Island. It is in the 1870 Old English Tipped pattern, and as another guess, I'd say the older looking marks are present along with the manufacturers name just because of the age of the pattern.

Thanks so much for the info. It is a joy to metal detect and find items like this. I live in a house that was built in 1915, so this spoon pre dates the house. I think so more searching is not to far away. I weighed the spoon, and it weighs 2.5 ounces.
