Date and item??

I´m not sure if the item is a caster or what?? (7cm by 3.5cm) and im also doubtful about the date letter, help please!!

Hi.
My reading of the date letter would be w for 1896, although it is not really clear on the screen. The sponsors 2nd letter is even less clear and I am not sure whether it is an H or not, but if the sponser is T.H then I would put it down to Thomas Hayes. Could you advise what you think the 2nd letter is.
I would call that item a Pepper Pot
