Hello Agostino,

As you thought the piece is probably attributable to Robert Jones I. Although the mark isn't in all respects the same as the one reproduced at item 2347 of Grimwade's book on London makers nor the one reproduced on page 222 of Jackson's book Jones seems the only candidate if one assumes that Robert Innes, another maker using the initials RI shown at Grimwade 2345 as registered 1743, wasn't still active in 1781.
For what it's worth I've seen both waiters and salvers attributed to Jones.
