"Anglo-Japanese" style footed container?

Postby neilinthegarden » Tue May 18, 2010 12:36 pm

Can anyone tell me the official style of this footed vessel, and the intended use of the piece? Thanks so much!

Hello

Your item, I guess, could be a kind of food warmer?

Made by Pairpoint Mfg. Co, New Bedford, MA, founded 1880.

Please look here: http://www.925-1000.com/silverplate_P.html

The style is a tamed one - not Historism, nor Art Nouveau.

Something decorative - and simple to clean as well.

American members could maybe give you more sounded information.

Kind regards silverport

Don't know the intended use of the piece, but in American silver the style is often referred as Japanesque, an offshoot or subclass of the Aesthetic Movement.
