German pitcher/Frankfurt?

Postby queenbee420 » Wed Apr 28, 2010 3:21 am

I am trying to make some determinations about a pitcher which I think is German. The marks suggest Frankfurt possibly, although the Eagle mark is slightly different from the marks shown here. The outstretched eagle has the star over its head. But the wings appear different and there in an initial on either side of the eagle...possibly a E on the right and a T on the left? There is also a "15" mark which I figured would be the lothig mark, but there is one spot where there appears to possibly be another metal peeking thru, so I am thinking the piece might be silver plate instead of sterling with maybe some shady markings. I would appreciate any insight on this piece.
Thanks!

It is not Frankfurt.
I'm sorry but I think it is nickel-silver.

This mark is from Henninger & Co /later Jürst & Co from Berlin. This was a nickel-silfer factury.

Electro Plated Nickel Silver Pitcher — made by Henniger &a

Hello queenbee420

Theoderich has set the limelight on the correct spot!

Your pitcher, who is plated with 15 gram pure silver on inside and outside, is a product of Henniger & Co., Berlin. Time frame I must guess; because I haven’t a catalogue of this product: Stylistic of about 1890 until 1900.

Theoderich has already placed one of HENNIGER’s marks (1824 founded = many decennia, punches be necessary to be replaced for reason of be worn).

Here I show you an idealized »Trade Mark« of Henniger (Source: Catalogue of Henniger wholesaler branch, in Dresden, Saxony; from period 1912-1913).

If you study yours objects mark, Theoderich’s mark and this trade mark, then you could see: Eagles straddle legs, and in his claw feet’s, the imperial insignia — left the imperial globe, right the imperial sceptre (hence: an imperial eagle). Henniger has got the right of use, because he was supplier of King’s Court, and later Emperors Court.

(Significations: Gegründet 1824 = Founded 1824; Versilberte Metallwaren / Nickelwaren = Silver Plated, or Nickel Plated Metal Wares)

Another German competitor, the company Kallmeyer & Harjes, Gotha, Thuringia, used as her Trade Mark also a full size Eagle. This eagle was always used with nearly straight down legs; and in his claw feet’s holding a snake (hence: a snake eagle). Later some times the snake was changed for a ribbon with a motto.

Frankfurt eagle isn’t the only one! Eagle’s and Lion’s maybe the almost used animals in the world of trade trade of Silver and Plated — hence it is necessary to get and have an always growing knowledge of marks. Be seen bad struck marks, “nice” struck marks, worn marks …

Henniger & Co. was one of the German “Inventors” of “Neusilber” = “German Silver”, “Nickel Silver” … If you like to get some knowledge of the background circumstances, and then please look here: viewtopic.php?p=46492#46492

Also they were the first licence holder in Central Europe for the Electro Plating Processing; 1842 licensed by Werner Siemens.

The punch »EPNS«, in several combinations, stand for »Electro Plated Nickel Silver«.
