To which kind of function was this object designated originally for?

It is about 8 to 9 inch tall — weight about 250 to 300 gram (basic material related).



Is it a British auctioneer’s hammer with bell — for noisy area?

Is it a Californian Walnut cracker?

Is it a Danish Oyster opener?

Is it a French Champagne cork opener?

Is it an Italian Spaghetti scoop?

Is it a sophisticated Divining rod for Water witches?

Is it a Swabian »Spätzlepresse«?

Is it a handy tool for Ladies Self-defences?

Is it a … ?

That's a very interest and nice idea you suggested - because escargots be served hot, very hot!

Or maybe for escargot collectors who are afraid to touch them when collecting - as a kind of strait-jacket for escargots who don't like to be collected?

But in this case the inventor's from end of XIX century have never hold in mind these kind of multifunction. Otherwise these items were not so rare - ever I saw only two similar ones, which are now in my collection.

Wev shoot the Goal!

Yes, it is a »Lemon squeezer« - in the next photo is shown the version I've in my collection. These two item were sale to my, to be Oyster cracker - and my imagination was: »Oyster on crunchy shell's particles«

For reason of sieve's function rose in me the imagination, to be designated for cracking French wal-nut’s.

Some year later in an archive I found a Christofle catalogue from 1894 from their Karlsruhe Germany branch.

To be a designer, I was wondering, how much material and technique was invented in the Christofle Patent, to squeeze some drops of lemon juice!

In catalogous sketch squeeze a waiter the lemon - Christofle's lemon's squeezer was 1894 very expensive: 16 Mark each. And West Europe’s economy was in same time in struggle to agonize.

First shown lemon squeezer photo was taken from a catalogue of Martin, Hall & Co., Birmingham, 1910.

I've seen in an archive also a version from Wiskemann, Bruxeles; in little details differing of both here shown.
