help identify the origin of this vase

Postby ovo » Sat Feb 27, 2010 1:35 pm

Hello.

This is my first post. My name is Javier and live in Madrid, Spain.

I recently bought a silver vase, but I can not identify the silversmith, or its origin. Is marked with 800 and a lion with wings.

For style, I think it made in Italy ??? Venice ???

Epoch of manufacture ???

Any information is welcome.

Thanks in advance

Javier

Vase in an Italian Romantic Style, made in Venice

Postby silverport » Fri Apr 23, 2010 10:04 pm

Hello Javier - buenos días,

Always welcome in the forum »925-1000« with your questions.

For first aid, please look here: http://www.925-1000.com/Fitalian_marks_01.html

There you would observe that on Italian items most times are also struck maker's marks.

In your photos are only visible the mark of Venice, and the fineness-mark 800.

Please, search on your vase, to find also there the maker's mark. If there is only visible a name-punch, that could be a retailers mark. Then please search further on your vase for a maker's mark, as they are shown in above advised info-link.

Let us know, please, the result of your searches.

Thank you!

Kind regards silverport

Javier

This is an Italian vase, I can grant this !

On my opinion made by Macchi, an old maker, however the hallmarking is
incomplete,

look at this hallmarking on the San Marco cutlery set I have

Image

Image

The first mark is the Italian Government mark, composed by a star, a number and the code of the city

The second the quality of silver

Name of the maker and made in Italy

and the Lion San Marco

If you need more details just let me know

thanks

San Marco cutlery set

Postby silverport » Thu May 13, 2010 8:30 am

Hello aghino

May I request you to repeat your info - only your San Marco cutlery set included + further more information you would have maybe there fore - in the section »Flatware Pattern Identification«?

In about 1985 when I was a novice silver collector I've bought a »child set« (knife, fork, spoon) - but it was nearly impossible to find out the maker »San Marco« (punched on the knife's blade); so it remained unsolved now 25 year. But I wasn't later any more searching active; now by incidence of your contribution has arise a »Hello unsolved«

Thank you for your past contributions and for your futures as well!

Kind regards silverport
