1976 AT&T Award Marked "Sterling" with touch m

This is an interesting modern award that was given in 1976. It is marked Sterling with the mark that looks like "deM". I would like to figure out the maker or artist. It is very high quality. Any help would be great!

Nice to see it again, I owned the same DeMatteo sculpture a few years ago. The presentee's name was different on mine, I imagine that AT&T commissioned a number of these for presentation.
