Spoon w Hallmark 3 feathers & crown Man w Musket & d

Postby silversearcherz » Sat Jan 23, 2010 4:18 pm

This is a very crude item and not sure the age or where it was made. The man looks like maybe irish or english and either that is a ram beside him or a small dog.It almost looks like a monkey face with leaf over it's head below that also. The bowl od this spoon is very thin, similar to coin silver and it just looks like the spoon was dipped in silver.I polished the piece some and more silver color started showing up.Not really sure what content of silver this has. Any idea's on the hallmarks and what this was spoon was for?The spoon measures 8 inches long and the bowl itself is way oversized and measures 3 inches long by 2.25 inches wide and has the hallmarks as shown in photo.

Stretch marks also on bowl

Postby silversearcherz » Sun Jan 24, 2010 4:19 pm

I just wanted to add that there are stretch marks or uneven rows of lines inside the front of the bowl of this spoon which seems to be from the crude shaping or in the making of the bowl. These lines go from where bowl attaches to handle,to the tip of bowl and can not be seen on back. These marks are under the silver plate. The handle of spoon is not attached to center of bowl also which makes it look offset. This spoon is 2x the size of any persons mouth and someone did use it to eat from on one side, most likely sipping soup from it.I do not think it was originally made to be used to eat with though.Maybe I am wrong. Any ideas on what country this might have originated from?
