Help to indentify hallmarks on snuff box

Postby techsol » Wed Dec 02, 2009 11:25 am

I would be grateful for any help in identifying the marks on this snuff box.
It only has the makers mark and the lion passant, it looks to be Circa 1800.

Absence of the duty mark of the George Head is interesting as the box does not look pre 1784 . But I'm no expert on snuff boxes.

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

The marks shown would have been a secondary set that would have been applied to an attached part, in this case, the lid. If there are no marks on the main body of the box, then it's fair to assume that this part is not original.
