Silversmith initials on a 1845 Birmingham cigarette case.

Postby Corvinus » Fri Nov 20, 2009 3:10 pm

I have a cigarette case with what appears as W&C as the makers mark. I can't find any silversmith that matches that. The case's hallmark identifies it as an 1845 Birmingham. Can anyone help with the W&C initials? Unless, that is a dot between the letters and not an &.. The actual halmark on the case is way to small to tell with the naked eye. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

That is the mark of Wheeler & Cronin of 30 St. Paul's Square, Birmingham.

I would call that a card case.
