Please help, i think the maker is Wakely and Wheeler but cant work out age.

I can't see very clearly, but it looks like the 1966 l for London.

Looking at the item, I would suggest it would be much nearer the turn of the century.. first 30 yrs of 20th c. Best wishes, Mike.
