Bruckmann or Paulmann & unique extra marks

Postby SwissSilverBuff » Fri Jun 05, 2009 5:41 am

Hello,

I would be grateful for any help in determining if this spoon is from Bruckmann & Söhne, Heilbronn or J.W. Paulmann und Sohn, Bremen. Below the photos you can find links to photos of their marks. Although the marks are similar there are additional marks that might provide some clues.

Particularly, the eyedrop shaped mark below the 800 seems to have flowers in the middle and the letter "S" at the bottom. One might think that above the flowers is a face with a tall hat looking left but there are two "balls on strings" on the left side of the face, if it is a face, which make for a rather improbable picture. I am rather stumped.

Maybe the mysterious elongated double hexagon to the left , which I couldn't find in any catalogue, could give an indication.

Thanks for any suggestions.

S

Hello, that is Bruckmann, designer is Helene Brandt-Lock. The hexagon mark on the right-hand side of the eagle can sometimes be found on Bruckmann pieces. The meaning is not known. The small mark below is probably an import mark, it looks like the Swiss import mark with a flower ("Edelweiß"). Paulmann never made cutlery, if his name is found on a piece he just acted as a retailer. Best wishes, Bahner

The Swiss import mark would make sense since I found this spoon in Switzerland.

May I ask what indicates that the designer was Helene Brandt-Lock?

Thanks,

S

Hello, there is a booklet, issued by Bruckmann ca. 1927, with pics of several of Brandt-Lock's designs. Best wishes, Bahner
