Mystery marks, help needed.

These mystery marks are on a cigarette case that i have aquired, but i cannot trace maker or recognise the symbols.
The case is engraved to; W. Cornell, British Red X Hospital, Netley 1914-15, so i am assuming that the case is pre 1914.
all help greatly appreciated.

These are British hallmarks, but those used on wares imported into the UK. The oak sprig is the import city mark for Chester, and the date letter "L" for 1911-1912. "GD" is the importer George Dresden, whose offices were in London. He was a partner in the British Automatic Mesh Co., which manufactured gold & silver mesh bags and purses, but he also served as import agent for several German firms, including Andreas Daub, Burkhardt & Co., J. F. Glebe and Lutz & Weiss, all of Pforzheim.
