Is sterling silver magnetic?

Postby fan20000 » Tue May 12, 2009 4:18 am

I just bought a sterling silver bracelet.
But I found that the clasps on both ends are magnetic and the rest of the bracelet is not magnetic.
There is a 925 stamp on one clasp.
Is sterling silver magnetic?
Thanks for your help.

Hi Ruby,

Welcome to the Forum.

No, silver is not magnetic. It could be, however that your magnet is picking up the the steel spring component of the clasp.

It could also have a magnet-clasp, a fairly new addition to the jeweler's tool-box.
