HELP AT A LOSS. CROWN & SUN MARK

Hi, can anyone help me with this mark im at a total loss with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hello.

Not 100% sure, but I think that sun is the trademark of the Mappin Brothers.

The use of a crown on British silverplate in a cartouche was banned around 1897. So, your piece dates to before 1897.

Doesn't the Mappin Bros have a face on their sun or did it vary.

You're correct that the Mappin Brothers sun usually had a face.
However, a couple of my references show a flatware mark without a face.

Just offering a possibility here. Not sure at all that your mark is Mappin Brothers.
