Sterling Tea Caddy with letter mark-Need Help with Maker

Postby holdover47 » Sun Apr 12, 2009 8:42 am

I'm new to this forum--hope I get the pictures right! I have a sterling silver tea caddy ith chased floral decoration. The mark is a square with the letter D--or perhaps B?-- and S over C beside it. Can anyone help with this mark? Thank you! J

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

Some larger photos would be of great assistance.

Hello and welcome.

I believe the letters in your mark are BSC.

Seems to be disagreement as to who used that mark.
I think it was the International Silver Company for their Barbour Silver division.

Some argue for the Bixby Silver Company of Providence Rhode Island.
Can't find any evidnce to support this idea though.

Pat.

Hi Pat,

What is the source for the text in your image? I've never seen the 'handmade' part.

Thanks,
Spencer

Hi Stewart ~ welcome to the forums. Unfortunately, our friend Pat passed away a couple of years ago (and he is sorely missed), the text he referenced appears in the 1934 Keystone Jewelers' Index, excerpts can be found online at the 'Chicago Silver' site...
