Dutch? silver caster spoon

Postby ktiggeloven » Tue Mar 03, 2009 6:11 pm

Dear fellow members,

I have a caster spoon which came out of a Frisian estate which has several markings on it, one of which is the dutch zII mark for .833 silver. I've been trying to date the spoon or search its origin based on the other marks, but as yet have been unsuccesful. The second mark states RODE. There is a third mark which depicts 3 fishes, and a fourth of something of which I'm not entirely sure what it depicts. I hope someone can cast some more light on where this spoon originated from. kind regards,
Kasper

This spoon is actually Danish and made by Carl Christoph Rode in Aabenraa in the southern part of Jutland near the German border. C. C. Rode was born in 1826, became a silversmith 16. 5. 1855 and died in 1902 (Chr. A. Bøje, Danske Guld og Sølvmærker før 1870. Politikens Forlag 1954 page 157 mark 1430).

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
JAKJO

Hello JAKJO,

has you an idea, what the last mark on the right means? It looks like a variation of the Spliedt mark, but I am not sure (Spliedt produced also for danish retailers and I know his mark also in cobination with (pseudo)-city marks).

Kind regards,
Ringo

Maybe it is good to know for everybody that it is neither a spoon nor a caster but a sugar sifter ;-))))))))

Have a nice day

Hello,
I have only asked what means the mark on the right side.
(If it is the Spliedt mark, then Rode is a retailer)
Kind regards,
Ringo
