Help ID Watch Case Hallmarks

Postby captainsimos » Sun Feb 15, 2009 10:28 am

This is a William Marshall (Edinburg) pocket watch with a silver? watch case. Could someone please help ID the marks. One is a Lion (.925), one is a "BN", one is ( i ), and the other is a shield or a cat head can't really tell. This is my first posting so if I have left something out please let me know.
Thank you in advance for the help!

Hello and welcome.

I read the hallmarks as London 1824.
Believe the BN mark was used by Benjamin Norton, 59 Banner Square, St. Lukes.
Benjamin Norton just made the case.

Hi,Unless I am wrong the maker of the case is Benjamin North. The other poster states Benjamin Norton but I feel it is Benjamin North. He did only make the case only.

With the absence of a duty mark and the shape of the leopards head... I read the hallmark as London 1904/5.
Best wishes, Mike.

Watch cases became exempt from duty in 1798.
Statute 38 Geo III cap 24 (1798).
