What-is-it-question CXLV.

This sterling silver piece was made by Gorham in 1886.
It is 6 inches (15.24 cm.) long, 2 inches (5.08 cm.) high and 3.5 inches (8.89 cm.) wide.

What was it meant to hold ?

Hmmm... no guesses ?

This is supposed to resemble the items it was meant to hold.
I think the leaves are throwing everybody off.
Now-a-days we usually see these with a pimento and no leaves.

Catalog number is 515.

Gosh Pat, is it supposed to be an olive? If so, considerable artistic license was taken, leaves would seem to be off in shape and size.

Hi Cheryl.

I knew I could count on you.
Book does call it an olive dish.
Have to admit though, it takes some imagination to see an olive there.
