Bamberg German Silver tobacco box - unkown swan mark?

Postby cb505 » Mon Jan 12, 2009 12:55 pm

Can anyone identify the swan mark?
I have this German tobacco box in my collection and I have identified the B mark to mean Bamberg (or Bemberg as listed in Tardy). I am having trouble identifying the other mark, which is a swan over a crest, with the initials G?G below.
I am hoping this might identify the maker or the year it was made. The decoration on the box relates to the Battle of Minden (part of the seven year war), which took place on the 1st August 1759, I believe that the box is from around this time.
Can anyone help?

Thank you for your reply, very helpful. If anyone knows what the 'B' mark means I would be very grateful.
Cheers
