These two silverplated pieces come from a c.1885 Reed & Barton catalog.
They both served the same purpose.
I would estimate the diameter of both from 5 inches ( 12.70 cm.) to 6 inches ( 15.24 cm.).

This may be primarily an American item.
Not sure if these were found in Europe.

What were these called ?
Two names were used for these items. Will accept either one.

Lady's cuspidors or spittoons?

Yes, they are called cuspidors and spittoons.
The catalog does not indicate they were for ladies, but that's a posibility.

The tobacco leaves that are part of the design on each piece are a clue as to it's purpose.
