Help with Spoons!

Postby zoner87 » Thu Nov 06, 2008 3:50 am

Hello!

Just a quick couple of questions about this pair of spoons.

I worked out the age to be about 1719; the position of the hallmarks, the initials on the back of the spoon, the overall design, the half readable Britannia mark (95.8% Silver) and the top of the date letter D in a flat topped cartouche.

However, the makers mark eludes me! Does anyone have any ideas on it?

Also, what type of spoon is it? Soup? Serving?

Many thanks in advance,
zoner87

Hi,

The makers are Hugh Arnett and Edward Pocock who worked together, I believe, from 1719-24.
Spoons of this size are called table spoons and were used for eating soup.
