Silver tableware with poodle???

Postby Jolanda » Sat Oct 11, 2008 12:57 pm

Hello,

After reading for several hours (and found one topic that could be what I'm searching for) it was time to join this forum.
I hope you can help me with the following:

I've got a 51-pieced tableware, but have no clue where it comes from.
My friend told me it was French (she saw a poodle on the mark)!
The forks and spoons all have this mark, a poodle/dog facing left and the letters AP on the sides. The largest spoon (dont know the English word but would give it a try: Vegetable spoon? and Meatfork) have 2 marks.

Thanks in advance,
Jolanda

This mark stands on both the sets:

Will try tomorrow to get a better photo from the "poodle/dog".

Hello and welcome.

Don't recognize the AP mark. Could be French silverplate.
Maybe it's because I'm from the mid-west United States, but that looks more like a steer or bull to me.

Thank you Pat.

Here's the promised picture of the "poodle" :

Hi Jolanda.

I'm not 100% sure about this. I think that is a French silverplate maker's mark that was used on items for export.
If anyone can read French (I can't), the information below may confirm this.

Also not a French speaker, but from the few words I recognize, I believe it is a mark used by foreign manufacturers on silverplate made for export to France. The book example shows the maker's mark of the German manufacturer Franz Mosgau. Hope someone will fill us in on the rest of the info.

Regards, Tom
