Georgian Coffee Pot

Postby eleventh » Mon Oct 06, 2008 3:36 pm

This coffee pot is hallmarked on the exterior. It is identified as British sterling, made in London, in 1759. There isn't a maker's mark

There is a maker's mark on the underside. I haven't found this mark.

Did the maker put his stamp on the bottom? Or is it the mark of a craftsman who repaired the bottom?

Makers are William Shaw and William Priest.. and that mark shown is the makers mark. Best wishes, Mike.

Very nice. It seems likely that the embossed decoration was added later in the Victorian period.
