Help Identify Makers Mark G H C needed?

Postby nmdc114 » Sun Aug 17, 2008 11:12 pm

Hi there

I recently purchased a beautiful silver Goblet with hammered effect and dating to the beginning of 20th Century but I cannot find the makers anywhere? The initials are G H C. I have pictured the piece and its hallmark below. If you can help, I would be most grateful. Thanks. Nigel

Hello,

Although the picture is a little unclear the maker's mark appears to be that of George Henry Cowell (three overlapping circles; roman letters; no pellets).
John Culme's Directory of smiths has Cowell as an art metal worker at various London addresses between 1908 and 1930.

Hello again!
Sorry about suggesting the mark wasn't clear; I should have scrolled down to the next picture!
George Henry Cowell it is.
