ID silver repousse bracelet from Finland 1945

Postby WordWoman » Tue Jul 01, 2008 12:56 pm

My research, and that of a jeweler's, has given partial identification. Can you help with the rest? I believe the crown hallmark shows it was from Finland and the Q6 indicates a 1945 date. The silver content is shown. I don't know the name of the artist (initials J.A.T.) and the other hallmark may be for the city. It looks like a ship to me. Any help would be appreciated.

Instant success! Thanks.

Now, if anyone is able to figure out who J.A.T. is, I'm forever in your debt!

The initials JAT was used by Johan Akseli Tarkiainen. He worked originally as a silversmith in Viipuri from 1916 until 1939 after it was occupied by the Sovjet Union. I don't have a record if he moved directly to Helsinki after that but there is today a well known silver company in Helsinki called Tarkiainen.

I'm absolutely amazed at how quickly Hose_dk and Kerppola came up with answers to my questions about the bracelet. I've been fascinated by this bracelet since I found it at a thrift shop -- not just because of the mystery behind it, but because of its beauty. Now, a mystery of many years has been solved in less than 24 hours!

Thank you so much.
