Help with 2 German hallmarks

Postby muraille » Wed May 28, 2008 5:24 pm

The two items below seem to belong together but have different hallmarks. I need help with both but thought one might lead to the other, so am posting them together. The first hallmark belongs to the tray, the second one to the bowl:

Hello, the A in a star is the mark of Robert Altermann from Görlitz, active 1879 - 1927. The other mark is to worn to be sure. Check here

under Lutz und Weiss for a possible match. They used various kinds of the shield, all with letters L and W ligated. Best wishes, Bahner

Thank you very much. Having cleaned the tray, I found another mark on the front of it. Maybe this will help?

That is a Dutch tax mark used on foreign made silver.

Thank you very much. Lutz & Weiss is definitely a possibility but, as you say, too worn out to be sure.
