800 Silver Spoons with Coin Bowls - International Marks!

Postby Adam.NYC » Sat Apr 26, 2008 10:03 am

These spoons have 1743-45 Austrian 15 Kreuzer Maria Theresa coins as their bowls. The stems of the spoons have a multitude of foreign marks, so if I have posted this in the wrong forum, excuse me.

It is marked '800' for silver content; it has the swan for France import (I think?), it has a moon for Germany (I think?); and lastly it has a tree in a diamond shaped lozenge, which I haven't identified.

What do you experts think?

Thanks!

Adam

Hello, the tree in a lozenge is the mark of goldsmith Richard Garten from Dresden, Germany. He took over his father's workshop around 1860 and ran it until 1905. Garten made many Hanau-style pieces and also used pseudo-marks besides his own mark. His pieces are often mistaken for old ones. Best wishes, Bahner
