Can anyone please give me information on these marks and is it a jam dish?

Your piece is Sterling silver and assayed in 1881 at London.
The makers mark is none to clear, but may be the Danish born silversmith Jes Barkentin who was working in Oxford Street until his death in 1883. He was a maker of ecclesiasstical silverware, so if he was the maker your jam dish may have started life with a different use.
Can you post a larger photo' of the makers mark or describe the first letter?

Thank you for your quick reply. I am no expert and as there are a few marks which will not clean out I thought it was silver plate.
The glass bowl measures 5.1/2" in diameter. All the marks I have shown are on the lid. The initails are J.B on the lid.
There are the numbers 2221 on the tray with which look like the initials I:R Here is a larger photo of the makers mark.
