Maker of a german candlestick

Postby dinio » Sun Mar 09, 2008 10:27 pm

Hi,
This candlestick is 29 cm high and weighs roughly a pound. It looks to me as 18c or perhaps older, and I think that it could be german.

The town mark looks like the ones used for Stuttgart, but the match is not exact. I have no clue for the maker, and thus I am a bit confused and not sure of this item.

Can someone help in identifying the origin and date of this candlestick ?

Thanks.

Hi,
After some careful comparisons and drawings I finally changed my mind and now I think that the town mark could be the one from Gmünd 17C/18C and not the one from Stuttgart (the mammal looks more like a unicorn than a horse). Nevertheless I still have no clue about the maker, and no way to give some precise date.
I am also questionning myself because there is no tremolirstrich. I thought it was systematic/mandatory at that time.

Thus identification is still to be done, and forum help will be greatly appreciated.
