Unknown Mark on Cruet Set

Postby _TZ_ » Mon Feb 18, 2008 6:42 pm

Hi. I need help identifying the mark on this cruet set. It looks like a wreath with a candle in the middle. The piece is also marked Sterling and 4355.

Thanks for looking.

I saw that sword mark for Watson and thought this one might be one of theirs too, but was not sure. I've noticed there are other companies that use similar marks to each other, so is there anywhere that confirms that this is a Watson mark?

i'm not so sure now that you mention it. The photo on this website shows a wreath with a sword for Watson and your photo has what looks like a candle in a wreath. Maybe someone with more experience can comment?

Just a thought but try Wilcox & Wagner. Their mark looks like this but more with a candle. Hope that helps

It is actually both Wilcox & Wagner and Watson. It was originally W & W's but Watson took over that company and continued the use of the mark. Will straighten that out in the American Marks section on the next update.

Regards, Tom

Can anybody shed any light on the two different wreath marks? The one with a sword and the other with a candle.

Just a follow up: There is apparently still no sample of a Wilcox and Waggoner mark. That said, Rainwater shows two different versions of the sword and wreath mark. The first is inverted and could be mistaken for a torch or candle. The wreath has a basketry like design to it. The second mark appears closer to the Watson Company inherited version with the wreath looking more like laurel leaves.
