German Sewing Companion. Maker MPW

Postby carling » Tue Feb 12, 2008 6:39 am

Can anyone identify the maker MPW of this German sewing companion or hussif? As well as the maker's mark it is also stamped PATENT ANGEMELDET (registered patent) and 830 (purity mark). There is also another mark at the top (inset) though not very clear.

I am sorry I can't provide better or more detailed pictures. It belongs to a friend who sent me the picture.

Hi Carling,
Given the 830 standard, do you think it could be Scandinavian rather than German?

I did debate that with myself, Tom. The word 'angemeldet' swayed me in favour of Teutonic origin. Also the Greek Key pattern was widely used on German thimbles. I have also come across the 830 standard mark on other German thimbles as well as the Russian 84 mark so suspect they were intended for export.

Thank you both for your input.

Yep, I did a google search for 'angemeldet' and limited the results to Norwegian language website returns. Got a ton of returns, despite the language filter, every one of the pages was still written in German.
