Kassel Ladle

Hi,

Can anyone help with information on this ladle?
It is 14" (36cm.) long, 4" (10cm.) across the bowl and weighs a hefty 240 grams. The city mark I believe is that of Kassel and pre 1850, it also has a French import mark of Troyes (1864-1893) and the corresponding anvil mark, unfortunately too small to photograph.
The makers mark is unclear and the age of the piece unknown.
Any help would be appreciated.

The "H" in the city mark indicated Kassel guild assayer Georg Friedrich Persch, who served from 1836 until the dissolution of the guild around 1865. The maker is Joseph Aaron Berger (1812-1861), Master 1839.

Are the dates given for Joseph Aaron Berger, that of his working life? Or his birth/death.

The dates in parentheses are (birth-death). Theoretically, then, his working life would have been from his mastery until his death, i.e. 1839-1861. Note, however, that a widow was often permitted to use her husband's mark after his death, so a maker's death does not necessarily give the latest date his mark may be found.
