Set of 6 cut glasses w/ sterling bases

Postby hippieforever » Sat Dec 22, 2007 8:11 pm

I have a fitted display box with 6 "desert style" glasses w/ subtle cut patterns on them. The stems fit into the sterling silver bases.

There is no marking on the box other then a little ribbon saying "Sterling silver".

The marks on the underside of the sterling bases are really hard to make out. All 6 seem to have an "S" in what appears to be a box or possibly a shield then the word "Sterling" followed by a "1" and a "4". On most of the 6 the 1 and 4 are close enough to be "14" but on two of the bases the "1' and "4" are separated by a considerable distance.

Can anyone help with exactly what these are and who the silver smith might be?

Regards,
Hippieforever.

According to the Forums list of manufacturers it was made by Seidman of NYC, in business in the mid 20th century.

I overlooked that one because the layout was different.

Any speculation on what the "1" and "4" might mean?
