C B & W Sterling Mark on Bon Bon Server (?)

Postby LearnAll » Fri Dec 21, 2007 2:02 pm

I have acquired several STERLING pieces from an estate. I was able to identify some of them very clearly and they dated in the late 1800's.
I believe this piece also should be in the same time period but I cannot find any thing on the Maker to help me date it. Nor have I been able to find the pattern. It is a lovely floral pattern and I think the marks are: C B & W STERLING. The last letter is difficult to decipher. It could be an H, an M or a W. I don't have a very powerful magnifying glass. Hopefully I have provided enough angles for you to see the mark.
My pictures may not show the lovely brushing of the gold wash but it is very nice. The entire piece is approx 3 7/8" long.
Can anyone help to identify 1) the pattern or 2) the maker or 3) the time-period. Any direction at all will be gratefully appreciated.

Looks like C.B. & H. for Codding Bros. & Heilborn of N. Attleboro, Mass., away from my references right now, but believe they were in business from the 1860s-70s until somewhere around 1915-20. Sure that someone can give you more precise dates.

Edwin, Arthur, and James Codding (sons of the jeweler Abiel Codding) and Leo Heilborn; in business 1879-1918.

Thank you all so very much! I think this is the neatest group of people to share your expertise with us newbies. I search and search and scour my books and the internet and sometimes the library and this site, and then when I can't find the answer I post here and almost always someone has the answer.
Thanks again!
