Sterling ring found in USA

Postby Madmardigan » Wed Dec 12, 2007 9:08 pm

Hi

thanks for looking. I found this ring in Virginia USA and cannot place the hallmark. I've looked through this website but could not match it. Not sure if it is even American but since I found it in North America I am posting it in this forum.

It looks to me like two triangles with some mark in the middle of both of them, maybe a C or O with an & or possibly an 8 in between the triangles.

Just fyi, I also found a 17th regiment of Foot button circa 1831-1881 as well as a 1881 Indian Head cent in the same location.

Thanks for any input.

That might be the mark of Clark & Coombs, Providence, Rhode, Island.
They began making rings in 1875. Might still be in business.
Their double "C" mark has been used since the early years.
