smallest makers mark 9 digits in less than 2mm sq

Postby ummedia » Thu Sep 08, 2005 1:14 pm

I hope someone can help me I have been trying to identify a mark for a number of years. I picked up what I thought to be two deco bookends. Black marble base and gold metal abstract sculpture on top (nothing exciting) when I looked closely for marks I saw nothing until I saw what I thought to be punch mark where the metal had been joined. On closer inspection there was the tiniest punch mark I have ever seen. It has 9 digits within less than 2mm square. The digits are a

G, a star, S
P,L,O,A
G,A,L,V

there is a jpg at

If anyone has any ideas of maker i'd be extremely grateful

Hi,

I have no real clue, but my guess is that the GALV stands for galvanized.
The G*S will probably be the maker.

Do you have a photo of the item please, it could be helpful and does anyone know what the Goldschieder abbreviated mark looks like?
Best wishes, Mike.

Trying to work out what the letters mean in relation to where you are but still no sense. Will take some research but I am sure someone will come up with an answer. Best wishes, Mike.
