Coin silver w/o any marks

Postby lambtalitha » Sat Nov 17, 2007 2:43 pm

I have six teaspoons that are engraved with I believe to be my great-great grandmother's initials which would place them in early 1800's or so. However, they have no silver marks whatsoever on the back, but they sure appear to be coin silver. Is that possible?

Hi,
Absolutely, unmarked American coin silver exists. There seem to be far more marked examples, but I unmarked examples show up now and again. If you'll post an image of your heirlooms, we'll try and give you a circa date.

I shall try to post images, but have not had great success! Will do so tomorrow as I have grandchildren duties this afternoon!

Thanks, Tom---

Hi, Tom,
I'm going to try to attach photos of what I believe to my coin silver spoons without any maker's marks on them. There are 6 altogether and none have any marks on them.

Susan, please do not start a new thread for anything additional about these spoons, just click on reply and post it here.
Thanks

Hi, Tom,
Thanks for the advice; I will learn all the rules eventually! Were you able to click on the photo links that I sent?

Tom, were you able to identify or discern whether these are in fact coin silver?
