Late 1700's silver mark

Postby darst » Mon Nov 05, 2007 6:00 pm

My family has a silver tea service from the late 1700's. There is a maker's mark, a company name, but I haven't been able to find any information on the company. The mark is on the base and is proving hard to photo.
The name is: Joones, Iws && all.
The two o's do not appear to be the result of a double stamp despite the double & &.
The service was a wedding gift from John Adams to his daughter Abugial and has A.E.B. on the three pieces.
Any information is appreciated.

It sounds like Jones, Lows & Ball of Boston, your're dating would be a bit early, the firm was founded circa 1839. A picture would confirm.

Regards, Tom
