James Brady, who has been employed by the R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co., Wallingford, Conn., was hurt, recently, when an elevator fell on him. It is reported that while he was working on the bottom of the shaft the elevator came down and pinned him beneath the car.

William B. Glidden, coast agent for R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co.. suffered a sad loss on Christmas Day, in the death of his mother.

The R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co., Wallingford, has just received by transfer from Albert S. Jones 15 acres of land in Quinnipiac.

Harry Shelly of 339 N. Menard Ave., who was formerly with the Chicago office of R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co., is now an infantryman in France. Last week the Chicago papers carried a message from "over there" that tells a great story in a few words. Concerning him the cablegram said "Decorated August 12 by King George for conspicuous gallantry, capturing enemy sniping position, taking eight German prisoners."

Robert Morris, who represents the R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co. at Chicago, has returned to that place after a brief visit at the home of his parents in Wallingford.

The R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co., Wallingford, laid the cornerstone for its new administration building last week. Samples of their products in various lines were enclosed, together with a copy each of the Morning Record and the Evening Journal and a collection of papers containing statistics of the business, a history of its growth, and a copy of a paper read before the Wallingford Board of Trade in 1911 by F. A. Wallace; also a sketch of Robert Wallace and of the production of the first German silver spoon made in the United States in 1835. The administration building will be a fireproof structure, 133 feet long and 60 feet wide. It will have two stories above the basement. The construction will be foundation of artificial stone composed of white Portland cement and marble chips. The building will be of colonial architecture, in white stone and red tapestry brick. It is anticipated that it will be ready for occupancy by Jan. 1, 1920.

Burt Miller, who has been associated with the trade here for more than 20 years and for the past several years with R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co., has organized the Arrow Plating Co. to do repairing and plating of silverware for the trade. Associated with him are G. F. Weiler and J. P. Carlson, experienced men in this work. The business will be located at 208 N. Canal St.

The R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co., of Wallingford, Conn., are about to spend about $25,000 in carrying up three of their mills one story which will give them greater facilities for the manufacture of their plated and sterling-silver wares.

A Terrific Boiler Explosion in R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co.s Factory
Wallingford, Conn., Nov. 11.—Three of the big boilers in the engine room at the factories of R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co. exploded yesterday forenoon with terrific force. Parts of one of the boilers were blown far from the building. Parts of the roof of the engine building were torn off. Fortunately none of the men were near the boilers at the time of the accident, a Frenchman, who was badly scalded, being the only person injured.
The accident was caused by the blowing off of a patch put on one of the boilers about a year ago, after it had been in use about 14 years. It is thought the damage can be so repaired as to be able to start up the factory Monday. The company are very badly in need of it to fill orders. The boilers were insured for $25,000.

The R. Wallace Sons Mfg. Co., Wallingford, Conn., is to build a handsome new office building on the factory premises, on Quinnipiac St., and Charles F. Williams of 478 N. Main St., is to assume charge of the office as manager, Jan. 1. Mr. Williams is at present the superintendent of the Wallingford Co., a branch of the R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co. His successor has not been determined upon.

A contract has been awarded for an addition to the plant of R. Wallace & Son., Wallingford, Conn., and work is to be started soon. A four-story brick building, 100 x 50 feet, and a one-story structure, 213 x 90 feet, are to be erected.

W. C. Reebie, South American representative for R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co., spent several days in Chicago last week en route to Wallingford, Conn. Mr. Reebie visited Mexico City on his way home and says conditions there are very unsettled.
