L. SINGER

28, St. Catherine Street West, Montreal


During the early hours one morning recently, the jewelry store of L. Singer, 28 St. Catherine St. W., Montreal, was robbed of goods valued at about $110. The thief carried out the robbery by means of a hole in the store window which had been covered by a tin plate, which he removed.

S.A. STODDART

Douglas Street, Victoria, B.C.


S. A. Stoddart, jeweler of Victoria, B. C, was recently assaulted in a little room behind his store on Douglas St. by a man who inflicted a serious wound on Mr. Stoddart's head, and when help arrived escaped by jumping through the glass of a back door. The assailant is known to the police and every effort is being made to arrest him. Mr. Stoddart was taken to the hospital in a critical condition.

Toronto, Can., May 22.–About 25 jewelers from western Ontario attended a meeting held at Stratford. Out., and organized the Stratford District Branch of the Retail Jewelers' Association. The following officers were elected: Chairman. N. F. Babb, Stratford; vice-chairman, F. S. Sauvage, Seaforth; secretary-treasurer, C. L. Welsh, Stratford; executive officer, W. A. Cameron, Mitchell.

Addresses were delivered by M. C. Ellis, Toronto, president of the Canadian National Jewelers' Association; M. O. Ross, Toronto, secretary of the National Association, and W. G. Young, of London, president of the Provincial Jewelers' Association.

A.E. GRIFFITHS

273, Bleury Street, Montreal


Early in the morning of July 30 the jewelry store of A. E. Griffiths, 273 Bleury St., Montreal, Can., was broken into and over $500 worth of gold watches stolen. Entrance was gained by breaking through the outer back door at the rear and prying apart two iron bars protecting an inner door, making a small aperture through which only a very small man or a boy could pass. Though much valuable jewelry was in the store only the watches were taken by the thieves.

WILLIAM N. McKENDRY

Toronto Jewelry Manufacturer Dies Suddenly from Heart Trouble

Toronto, Canada, July 30.–William N. McKendry, manufacturing jeweler of 70 Lombard St., Toronto, died suddenly at Kitchener, Ont., recently while taking part in a musical program at a banquet.

He had exerted himself in responding to encores and at the close of the entertainment he collapsed and died in about half an hour. His death was due to heart failure and over-excitement.

Mr. McKendry, who was born in Ireland, was a prominent member of the Masonic and Orange orders and is survived by a widow and three children.

GOZLAN BROTHERS Ltd.

The business of Roger and Claude Gozlin.

Gozlan Brothers Limited were manufacturers of jewellery, they were incorporated in Ontario in 1964. The company was placed in receivership in 1976, at that time they were thought to have 300 employees. They were a Public Company that traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange, and had operations in Toronto, Montreal and Miami, Florida.

In 1973 they purchased the assets of Bassetts Jewellery Mfg.Co. of Toronto, the House of Lorant Ltd. of Toronto (Dominion Gold Craft), and the New York-based Essex Refining Corp.

The company manufactured the 'Pierre Cardin' line of jewellery for the Canadian, West Indian and Venezuelan markets as from 1974.

The president of the company in 1973 and 1975 was noted as Claude Gozlan.

Mr. David Dussault, of the firm of Chatcauvert & Dussault, watchmakers, St. John street, died at his residence the day before yesterday. He was a popular young man and had a host of friends, who will regret his early demise.

DAVID BARR

Sarnia, Ontario


OBITUARY RECORD

David Barr

Sarnia, Ont., December 6, David Barr, jeweller, former mayor and one of Sarnia's most prominent citizens, died suddenly this morning. Mr. Barr and Alex. Kelly were out driving in separate rigs, when Mr. Kelly noticed Mr. Barr drop the reigns. Mr. Kelly stopped the horse and asked a gentleman passing to drive Mr. Barr home. Mr. Barr was unconscious when he arrived home. Medical aid was summoned, but he did not regain consciousness. He was 69 years old, and is survived by his wife and three sons.

James Leslie, jeweler, Ottawa, Can., recently had on exhibition in the window of his shop a nest of live, full grown lizards which were picked up at Gatineau Point. The reptiles took refuge between two stones placed one above the other in a glass jar.
