Predictions that the Sinn Fein would win nearly half the 52 seats in the Northern Irish, or Ulster Parliament, were made by Barry Egan, acting lord mayor of Cork, who is visiting Paris.

The Barrymore Cup, manufactured by William Egan & Sons Ltd. in 1911 and valued at the time at 100 guineas, was donated by Lord Barrymore (Arthur Hugh Smith Barry) of Fota House, near Queenstown, who was admiral of the Royal Cork Yacht Club 1890–1925, and head of one of the great families of Co. Cork. The cup was for presentation at the Cork Harbour Regatta held at Queenstown on the 16th and 17th June 1911. The cup, which was described by 'The Cork Examiner' as "a work of art typically Irish and worthy of the fight which is certain to be made for its capture" was won by the Octavia.

CORK SILVER

A most interesting exhibition is to be seen in the windows of Wm. Egan & Sons, Ltd., of 32, Patrick Street, Cork. Here are shown a number of silver articles for the manufacture of which Cork was famous a hundred years ago. At that time there were over twenty workshops engaged in the manufacture of silver ware in Cork; silversmiths, chasers, engravers, polishers, burnishers, formed an important section in the busy community of Cork in the 17th and 18th centuries. A start was made by Messrs. Egan to revive this industry some years ago. The success with which the venture was attended has been fully justified.
