H.A. KEINHAM

Mexico City

A daring jewelry store robbery occurred in Mexico City, Mex., recently. Two well dressed men, one as a civilian and one as an army captain, left their automobile in front of a jewelry store owned by H. A. Keinham, an American entered and requested permission to examine a $1,600 diamond ring which was on exhibition. They further requested the use of a lens with which to make a closer examination, and while the jeweler was securing the lens the thief rushed out of the door, jumped into the waiting car and drove to the outskirts of the city. Here he pawned the ring in a gambling house for $150. The police were successful in apprehending the robber and the ring was returned.

The brothers were born in San Giovanni in Fiore, Cosenza, and came to Brazil, in their teens, with their father. They settled in Uberaba (Minas) in 1895 and opened a jewellery and goldsmith business there. Following the success of this enterprise, Umberto and Eugenio Adamo relocated to Rua Ouvidor, Rio de Janeiro, in 1909, before opening their second jewellery store on the Avenida Rio Branco. They were then joined by Umberto's sons, Armando and Francesco and his nephew Adolfo Adamo.
